“A smokefree future” – Kevin’s story

Kevin self-referred to the Smoke Free Life service when he began smoking again after six-years smoke free because his mental health became worse. He wanted to quit for good to feel better about himself again, have more energy and save money.
“I suffer with anxiety and depression realised that when I smoked, it seems to make me feel more anxious so I would smoke more to try and counter-act. I wanted to quit for health reasons too as I started to feel like I was struggling with my breathing at times.”
Quitting smoking improves mental health and reduces the likelihood of developing depression. Stopping smoking will reduce stress levels, improve overall quality of life, and positively boost moods.
“I am a very anxious person and not good at all talking to people I don't know, especially on the phone, so I thought I would really struggle to access the support. However, my Health Coach made me feel so relaxed from the start and I looked forward to our weekly calls as she was so easy to talk to.
“Quitting is so hard, and the cravings are very harsh at times. Speaking to my Health Coach, who went through the not a puff rule, I knew I couldn't just have the odd one. I had to have none if I was going to have a chance of quitting for good. I had quit before so knew I could do it again.”
Our fully qualified Health Coaches will provide you with one-to-one personalised support to help you make a quit plan and set a quit date. Our Health Coaches can advise on nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and prescribe quit aids such as gums, patches and inhalators.
“The service is amazing, and I would not have quit without the help of Reed Wellbeing and my Health Coach. I really want to thank her for all her support and how at ease she made me feel, helped me stay positive and motivated to keep going.
I’m now 10 weeks smokefree and my breathing is 100% better. I feel so much calmer, and I am looking forward to my future as a non-smoker. I have saved so much money and have got more energy. I haven't treated myself yet but I’m going to spend some of the money I’ve saved on some new home furnishings and a little bit of decorating.”
