Stress smoking – Carl’s story
Carl joined the Smoke Free Life service through a referral made by his GP. At the time he explained that his job was causing him stress, whilst negatively impacting his health and finances.
By quitting smoking, you’ll improve your mental health and reduce the likelihood of developing depression.
“I previously tried to quit smoking, but this lasted a few months and due to stress and anxiety I ended up smoking again”, said Carl. “My goal is to quit and be smoke free, so that I can improve my health and my wealth.
“I’ve recently been short of breath due to smoking, and since speaking to my Health Coach, Ruth, I have found the vape to be a supporting alternative to cigarettes. I was initially worried about joining; however, I found the remote service very beneficial and accessible, and the support has really helped. For me, it’s been much better receiving the support over the phone, rather than attending a clinic around work.”
Our Health Coaches can prescribe NRTs and quit aids such as gums, patches and inhalators, and the support can be delivered regularly by one-to-one phone or video calls.
“I am now 12 weeks into the service, completely smoke free, thanks to the support from Ruth. I am more active and can walk more and manage my stress better at work. With the money I’ve saved from stopping smoking, I am saving towards Christmas and a holiday!
“My next steps after finishing the programme are to continue using my vape, and gradually reduce this and the nicotine strength I use.”
